If the profile is public, you can. Type instagram.com/ and the username in any browser: the photo, bio and counts load without a login. Instagram soon asks you to sign in, and that is where a profile viewer helps.
If the profile is private, you see the name, photo, bio and counts. Nothing else, for anyone.

What a public profile shows without logging in
- The basics: photo, name, username, bio, link, and the post, follower and following counts.
- Posts and reels: visible on a public account, though Instagram's website shows only a few before asking you to sign in.
- Stories and highlights: public, but you need a viewer to open them without an account. How story viewers work.
- Who they follow: public too, though Instagram's website opens the list only once you sign in.
Three ways to view a profile without an account
In a browser
Free and instant. Good for a quick look at the bio and the latest posts. It stops the moment Instagram puts up its sign-in wall.
With a web profile viewer
Sites like Imginn load a public profile on their server and show it to you, posts and stories included, with no account of yours involved. They show what is there when you look, and can go blank when Instagram changes something. How Imginn compares.
With an app that keeps watching
A web viewer answers what is on this profile now. An app like FollowBell also answers what changed since: a new follow, a new story, a new bio.
Does the person know you looked?
No. Instagram tells nobody who opened their profile, whether you are logged in or not. The only thing on Instagram with a viewer list is a story, and only logged-in accounts end up in it.
How FollowBell shows a profile
FollowBell is an Android app for public Instagram accounts. You type a username, and never an Instagram password.
- Photo, name and counts, as on Instagram.
- Everyone they follow, sorted into women, men and other, marked as the estimate it is.
- Their stories and highlights, opened without appearing in the viewer list.
- An Instagram button that opens the profile there when you want the posts. FollowBell does not copy the post grid.
Watch the profile and FollowBell keeps reading it for you: a notification for each new follow, each new story, and each profile change, from a new bio or photo to the account going private or removing posts.
What you can see: everything a public profile shows, without an Instagram account, and nothing on their side says you looked.
What no app can show, whatever its ads say: a private account's posts, stories or follows, and who viewed a profile, yours included.
What no profile viewer can show
- Private accounts. Past the name, photo, bio and counts, nothing. A viewer that promises more is making it up.
- Who viewed a profile. Instagram records it for nobody. Not yours, not theirs.
- Dates of follows and likes. Instagram publishes neither.
- Archived stories and Close Friends. Visible only to the owner, or to their list.
